LL-00052 Extending the Baltic military heritage tourism product in Lithuania and South Latvia (an acronym Military Heritage II)

Project goals

The overall project objective is enhancing the role of military heritage tourism in economic development by extending the Baltic military heritage tourism product in Lithuania and South Latvia.

Project results

  • Adapted guidelines for developing Military Heritage tourism products based on existing Latvian and Estonian guidelines to assist tourism service providers.
  • Integrated ~300 objects of military heritage.
  • The website www.militaryheritagetourism.info will be supplemented with Lithuanian and Latvian information, places to visit, stories and routes.
  • Tourist routes will be created.
  • Audio guides will be prepared for selected objects in Žemaitija, Latgale, Žiemgala.
  • Two publications will be published: the Baltic Military Heritage Overview Travel Map and the Baltic Military Heritage Travel Guide.
  • 4 military heritage tourism objects in Latgale and Žemaitija will be improved by applying innovative solutions.
  • In order to increase interest in Baltic military heritage tourism and reach an international target audience, an international media tour will be organized.

Visitors in the programme area will benefit from qualitative touristic experiences. SMEs in tourism will gain economic benefits from tourism.

The cross-border approach takes balanced input from all partners and strong local involvement to ensure the quality and integrity of the product. Military heritage tourism product on pan-Baltic scale is a new concept. The project will join the individual sites and objects in rural areas in a stakeholder network that enables cooperation between organisations, information exchange, and learning from each other.

Total projects size is 641 927,48 EUR. Out of them co-funding of European Regional Development Fund is 513 541,98 EUR.
